The First Step to Growing the Alternative Energy Industry is Exposure!
As the alternative energy industry grows, there will be an abundance of jobs that need to be filled in the near future. These jobs consist of skilled trade workers, engineers... etc. One problem we are facing is that many people are unaware of the industry as it is still young and growing. This past year, we have made it a priority to get young people aware, interested, and engaged in alternative energy technologies!
Recently, Belle - our Director of Marketing, has been working in local schools to spread awareness and spark interest in alternative energy technologies and careers. She has teamed up with local Earth Science, and Engineering teachers to get students involved and ready for potential jobs in the industry.
Topics explained in Belle's presentations include: NY's energy resources, how NY uses its energy, Geothermal Energy Vs. Geothermal HVAC, the science and engineering behind geothermal heating and cooling systems, how we can ditch fossil fuels, converting buildings to alternative energy systems... and much more.
Together with the presentation portion, a demo geothermal unit is brought into the school to show students firsthand how a heat-exchanger, and heat pump system work together to reach 450% efficiencies in heating and cooling. At first, many students do not understand how their furnace works in their basements, or why it is even important to efficiently heat and cool workplaces, homes, and schools. By the end of Belle's 1 hour session, students come to realize that 1) EVERYONE should be using geothermal technology in their lives, and 2) They want to promote this technology in their careers, lives, and schools. The biggest conclusion that has been seen between all classes, ages, and grade levels is that they are confused why more people do not use alternative energy technologies. Our response to them is simple: Many people do not know! That is why we are here; to raise awareness so you can go be environmental advocates in your careers!
Overall, the experience has been great for both ACES Energy and the local schools. The goal is for students to be aware of and advocate for the use and development of alternative energy systems.

These students will have the knowledge, drive, and ability to make changes in their chosen careers when promoting alternative energy. Let's get them interested now so when they are engineers, HVAC professionals, or teachers, they are aware of what positive contributions they can make by applying environmentally-beneficial solutions to everyday problems.
