Solar Vs.Geothermal: Which should you choose? Both!

One of our most commonly asked questions: What is the difference between Solar and Geothermal? Here are your answers!

☀Solar: A way to produce your own electricity using panels on your roof, or yard. The panels convert sunlight to DC electricity, and your panel inverters convert this power to AC so you may use it in your home.

♻Geothermal (Ground Source Heat Pump): A way to heat and cool your home with no fuel or combustion. A geothermal heating and cooling system is 1 unit (so no outdoor AC unit), and runs off of a small amount of electricity to start the compressor. Once the compressor is started, the rest of the heating and cooling power comes from your loopfield heat exchanger that we place underground in your yard. These systems can be up to 450% efficient, while fuel-based furnaces can never be more than 99% efficient.

​Solar and Geothermal are two independent systems that compliment each other when paired. Your solar system produces the electricity your home consumes, and your geothermal heat pump conditions your home by using electricity. People who have both solar and geothermal systems can reach energy independence. Individually, they are great ways a homeowner can save money, and decrease their carbon footprint!
