As of March 2, there are over 46,000 Electric Vehicles registered in New York State. Every major car manufacturer has at least one type of EV in production.
Cities, towns, businesses and homeowners throughout the state are installing EV charging stations to help accommodate those drivers. By doing so, they are demonstrating their commitment to the environment and also helping to bring more traffic to their area. Maybe you've seen them in front of businesses and thought, "I should do something like that"; maybe you've had employees or customers ask you why you don't have one yet. If that is the case, now is the perfect time to install an EV charger thanks to state sponsored grants. These grants pay for a portion of the installation, and can drive (pun intended) customers to your place of business.
There are grants available to pay for a chunk of the installation costs!
There are multiple programs in place to help alleviate the cost of installing charging stations for both businesses and municipalities.
NYSERDA offers $4000 for every port installed, and the DEC offers a Municipal Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Grant. These two grants (cannot be combined) may help pay up to 80% of the project cost. Interested in what grants you may qualify for? Contact us to go over your options.
Promote environmentally responsible transportation, technology, and prosperity in your community!
Studies show that the average EV driver’s annual income is twice the national average. Providing these stations will help to encourage them to shop, dine and spend more time in that community. Other benefits include improved property values, reduced emissions and a possible long-term revenue stream.
If you've never used a modern EV charging station, they're just as technologically advanced as the cars they help power. As the station owner, you're able to set the parameters for how much a person pays to power up. You can make it free for your employees, or perhaps charge just enough to recoup the cost of the power.
Your Next Steps:
Prior to installing a charging station, there are a number of things to consider. When determining the placement of these stations, accessibility, visibility and availability of an electrical supply are all important factors. Once a location is determined, the next step is to decide on a type of station, whether they’ll be mounted on a wall or pedestal, and if any sort of cable management is required. Additionally, if the stations are networked, they can be discovered by the various apps that EV drivers use to help them navigate their travels.
The future of transportation is changing. Are you prepared to change with it?
